Barriers to Blessings

Goal

The goal of this discussion is to look for and recognize the “new thing” God is doing.

There Is A Cloud Devotional

There Is A Cloud is the latest album from Elevation Worship. During the There Is A

Cloud series, encourage your eGroup members to participate with this devotional. It

can be found on the Elevation App and studies the songs Pastor will be be preaching

during There Is A Cloud. It explores the heartbeat behind the album and studies the

promises of God found throughout scripture. You can also find the devotional

on YouVersion that is 7 days.

Conversation Starters

1. Do you have a favorite old song, artist, or band that you like better than the

new stuff? Who/what is it?

2. People tend to dislike change. What is something that you remember

changing that you really didn’t like?

Review

Watch the sermon clips and discuss eGroup members thoughts on the sermon. Ask

eGroup members to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to

them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions

they have. If members have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your

notes and share your favorite points.

Start with Scripture

In Isaiah 43:19, the Lord says to the nation of Israel, “See, I am doing a new

thing!” What are some “new things” God is doing in your life?

In Isaiah 43, the prophet recounts the way God delivered Israel from

Egyptian captivity, and then instructs the people not to dwell on the miracles

of the past. Why would he encourage the Israelites to “forget” what God had

done?

Compare Matthew 9:14-17 and Isaiah 43:19. How is the illustration about

putting new wine in old wineskins similar to what Isaiah was teaching the

people?

Make It Personal

Pastor Steven called Israel’s Red Sea experience their “core story.” What is

your core story? (What is one of your defining moments? What miracles have

you seen God work?)

“Remember what God has done, but forget the way He did it.” God doesn’t

want us to rely on a system (the way he has provided in the past) more than

we rely on Him (the source He is in our present) in the wilderness. What

wilderness are you walking through right now? What kind of provision have

you expected based on your past experiences with God? How have your

expectations been frustrated?

Isaiah 43:19 says “…I am doing a new thing…do you not perceive it?…” What

is keeping you from perceiving the “new thing” that God is doing in your life?

Act On It

It’s not your job to predict how God will move and supply, but your faith is

your responsibility. What practical steps can you take this week to build your

faith?

God blesses us so we can become a blessing. How can you shift your

perspective this week? Declare one “new thing” God is doing through you.

How can you bless others with it this week?

Do It Again

Play the song, “Do It Again.” As the song plays, remember that God was the One who

made a way: a way through the Red Sea and a way through the wilderness. God says

our best is not behind us, but before us. He wants to do a “new thing” in our lives

and for us to remove the barriers to new blessings.

Prayer Requests and Prayer

Ask eGroup members to share any prayer requests they have. Record any notes or

prayer requests to pray for members during the week.

Dear Lord, we know You want to do a new thing in our lives. Help us to trust You and

to move beyond your past faithfulness. We may not always know how, but we always

know WHO. Give us the faith and confidence we need to access your blessing in the

wilderness. In Jesus name, amen.
